Some milestones of N. F. Railway

bullet First Rail Link to Tripura, Kalkalighat-Dharmanagar opened for traffic on 1st April, 1963.
bullet The Rangapara North-Murkong Selek line was constructed in 1966.
bullet Broad gauge line upto New Jalpaiguri was opened for goods traffic in Oct, 1961 and for passenger traffic in April, 1964. Subsequently B.G.line reached New Bongaigaon and Jogighopa by 1966.
bullet Construction Organisation under a separate General Manager was set up in 1979.
bullet Construction of six new lines of six states of the N.E.Region started in 1978-79.
bullet Broad gauge reached Guwahati in April 1984.
bullet Inland Container Depot commissioned at Amingaon on Nov 1985.
bullet The Kaliabhomora Road bridge over Brahmaputra constructed by the N.F.Railway on behalf of the NEC near Tezpur in 1987.
bullet Dharmanagar-Kumarghat(Tripura) M.G..line was commissioned on 14.1.90.
bullet Silchar-Jiribam(Manipur) M.G.line commissioned on 31.3.90.
bullet Lalabazar-Bairabi(Mizoram)M.G.line commissioned on 16.3.91.
bullet Amguri-Tuli(Nagaland) project completed and opened for traffic.
bullet The project unigauge for the Railway which was inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri P.V.Narasimha Rao in July, 1992, has seen its first phase between Guwahati-Lumding gauge conversion(181KM) completed on 31.12.93.Passenger service started on 1.4.94.
bullet Lumding-Dimapur Gauge Conversion (69KM) completed and opened for traffic on 24.4.94.
bullet Chaparmukh-Haibargaon gauge conversion (25KM) completed and opened for traffic on 17.1.95.
bullet Dimapur toDibrugarh/Ledo gauge conversion (373KM) completed and opened for traffic on 19.5.97.
bullet On the passenger amenities front, a significant development has taken place through the linkage of computerised reservation system at Guwahati from March, 1991.Subsequently it was extended to all major cities and towns of Northeastern Region like Silchar, Dimapur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Siliguri. Alipurduar, Katihar,Itanagar, Maligaon Rly.Hd.Qrs etc.
bullet Opening of new PRS centres at Aizwal on 22.5.97 by former Prime Minister of India, Shri I.K.Gujral.
bullet Opening of new PRS centres at Itanagar and Kohima on 20.5.97 by former Minister for Railways Shri Ram Vilas Paswan and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland respectively.
bullet Introduction of Intercity Express between Guwahati-Tinsukia on 1.8.97.
bullet Another vital project- the third bridge over Brahmaputra near Jogighopa in the Northeast, named Naranarayan setu rail-cum-road overbridge, inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee on 15th April, 1998. The bridge built at Jogighopa, Assam at an estimated cost of over Rs.300 crores named after the Koch King Naranarayana.
bullet The Railway had introduced Rajdhani Express between Guwahati-New Delhi on 6th July, 1994.Apart from this a new pair of bi-weekly 2435/2436 Rajdhani Express train between Guwahati and New Delhi on 14.1.99 via Varanashi and Lucknow.
bullet On 31.3.99 the Passenger Reservation System of Guwahati which has already been linked with Calcutta, Secunderabad, Delhi system has been linked to the mainframe computer of Mumbai.
bullet On 18.4.99 computer mainframe of Chennai PRS has been interlinked with that of Calcutta PRS. Now one can get reservation from any station to any station from a single computer of any Computerised Railway Reservation office.
bullet The N.F.Railway introduced a new superfast train called Saraighat Express between Guwahati and Howrah on 6.7.95.
