Orang(Rajiv Gandhi) National Park

It is a miniature Kaziranga covering an area of 78.81 sq. kms. and is situated in the Darrang District of Assam. Sixty percent of the sanctuary is grassland. The animals seen in this sanctuary are the One-horned Rhinoceros, Leopard, Elephant, Sambar, Barking Deer, Tiger, varieties of water birds, Green Pigeon, Florican,Teal , Goose, etc.Various species of birds such as the Pelican, Cormorant, Greylag Goose, Large Whistling TeaGreat Adjutant Stork, King Vulture etc. have also found this sanctuary to be their ideal habitat.Orang is 150 kms from Guwahati and 31 kms from Tezpur. The nearest railhead is Rongapara and the nearest airport is Salonibari(Tezpur). Both Govt. & Private buses ply regularly from Guwahati.

DIGBOI

JORHAT

Before that it was the last capital of the Ahoms, the dynasty which ruled over Assam for six centuries. Majuli, the biggest riverine island in the world is the center of Assam's Vaisnava culture. HALFLONG The only Hill Satation of Assam and the headquarter of the North Kachar Hills Autonomous District Council. The city lies at an altitude of 3,000 ft from sea level. Jatinga, the peak of Haflong Hill is full of blue vandas, a lovely sky blue orchid, only of its kind in the world. The bird mystery of Jatinga is a fascinating annual feature (sept – oct). Come September and you will see thousand of birds fly and flutter at Jatinga for the last time. From the elevated watch tower you observe these feathery creatures yield to their death wish and then they downy plumages dropping down in a heap. Haflong has two lakes to offer adventure lovers for boating. The local language for the region is Dimashi.

JATINGA :

The peak of Half long Hill is full of Blue Vandas, a beautiful Sky -Blue Orchid. It is said that at ancient time of the year(Sept/Oct) the Birds of Colorful Feathers ruses to the Place to Commit Suicide.

KURSEONG

51 kms North of Siliguri and 30 kms South of Darjeeling is Kurseong, with its peaceful atmosphere and predominantly Nepali population. Kurseong is a walker's paradise. It gets its name from the 'Kursonrip' or small white orchid found here.

 The Assam State Museum was established by the Kamrup Anusandhan Samiti in 1940 and was formally inaugurated bu the Governor of Assam. Late Kanklal Baruah was founder president. The exhibits of the Museum are displayed under different sections, (1) Epigraphy, (2) Sculptures, (3) Miscellaneous, (4) Natural  History, (5) Crafts, (6) Anthropology & Folk Art & (7) Arms section.
